Range Rover Evoque

The 2012 Range Rover Evoque has finally hit Australian shores and is a welcomed compact addition to the marque's current market line-up.

This launch of the Land Rover brand's first ever compact SUV comes three years after it debuted at the Detroit Auto Show under the title of 'Land Rover LRX Concept'.

The base model Range Rover TD4 Evoque Pure features three or five doors and undercuts the previous cost of entry for the marque by almost half.

Also on offer are two diesel engines and three optional feature packs - a move away from the traditional trim hierarchy of Range Rover.

The only petrol engine on offer is the 177 kilowatt 2.0 litre turbocharged engine in the Range Rover Evoque Si4 model - capable of reaching 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.

Standard features include alloy wheels, a five-inch colour audio display, an eight-speaker sound system and a five-inch TFT Driver Information Centre, along with safety features such as Hill Launch Assist, rear parking sensors and terrain response for 4WD models.

Global demand has exceeded initial expectations, with more than 32,000 pre-sale orders taken.

This strong interested was mirrored in the Australian market - the first run of 250 of the Range Rover Evoque have already sold and more are expected to be available from May 2012.
